Therapy for Infants

Early treatment for the infant to optimize successful feeding, play and achievement of motor milestones during the beginning stages of life.

Infant Treatment Services

Early support can make a significant difference in a baby’s development. At Beacon Pediatric Therapy, we specialize in helping infants who show signs of motor delays, feeding challenges, torticollis/head tilt, tightness in the neck or body, or sensory and regulatory concerns. Our goal is to guide families with gentle, evidence-based interventions that promote comfort, mobility, and healthy development.

Comprehensive Infant Evaluations

Our infant evaluations are designed to uncover the underlying factors affecting movement, feeding, comfort, or early developmental skills. During the evaluation, we assess:

  • Oral motor and orofacial myofunctional skills to identify challenges with sucking, swallowing, or oral coordination
  • Bottle feeding patterns including latch, flow coordination, endurance, and feeding posture
  • Neck and body movement patterns to identify tightness, asymmetry, torticollis/head tilt, or reduced range of motion
  • Postural strength and early motor development
  • Primitive reflexes that may interfere with feeding, sleep, or emerging motor skills
  • Sensory processing cues, including signs of overstimulation, fussiness, or difficulty settling
  • Parent interview and developmental history to understand your child’s routines, behaviors, and family goals

Torticollis / Head Tilt Support

Many infants develop torticollis, which may appear as a consistent head tilt, preference to look one direction, or difficulty turning the head evenly. During evaluation, we assess neck range of motion, muscle tightness, and any related concerns such as plagiocephaly (flat head).

Our treatment approach includes gentle manual therapy, positioning strategies, developmental activities, and caregiver education to improve comfort, alignment, and mobility.

This in-depth process allows us to create a customized treatment plan that truly supports your baby’s needs.

Collaborative, Team-Based Approach

We work closely with trusted local professionals to make sure your infant receives complete, well-coordinated care. When indicated, we may refer families to:

  • Chiropractors for musculoskeletal support
  • Release providers or oral surgeons for tongue/lip tie evaluation
  • Lactation consultants for breast or bottle feeding support
  • ENT specialists for airway or structural concerns
  • Gastroenterologists for reflux or digestive issues
  • Local helmet companies for plagiocephaly (flat head) assessments

This collaborative model ensures your baby’s progress is supported from every angle.

Gentle, Targeted Infant Treatment Approaches

Our treatment plans are individualized and always rooted in gentle, developmentally appropriate methods. Therapy may include:

Gentle manual therapy for muscle tightness
We use soft, calming techniques to address tightness in the neck, shoulders, jaw, or body, helping improve range of motion and overall comfort.

Sensory processing and primitive reflex integration
For infants who are fussy, colicky, or easily overstimulated, we use sensory-based strategies and reflex integration to help them settle, self-regulate, and feel more at ease.

Sensory motor interventions for developmental delays
We support infants who experienced premature birth, NICU stays, early medical procedures, or developmental disabilities. Therapy helps promote skills such as rolling, reaching, grasping, head control, and early mobility.

Support for bottle feeding and oral motor challenges
We address difficulty with latch, coordination, sucking strength, leakage, or bottle refusal. Treatment improves efficiency, safety, and comfort during feedings.

Pre- and post-frenectomy therapy
For infants undergoing tongue or lip tie release, we provide supportive exercises and gentle oral motor work to help optimize healing, mobility, and function before and after the procedure.
