Beacon Pediatric Therapy provides occupational therapy treatment for children as young as 2.5 months. Supporting the child from a young age is so important for the development of skills later on as they grow and develop. Difficulties with muscle tone, strength, vision, sensory processing and coordination can be noticed months before a child is walking or even crawling (yes, crawling IS important). So why wait and see, when you can start when your child is beginning to have these concerns.

Occupational therapy can provide assessment and treatment for the following concerns for your infant:

  • Oral motor skills for feeding/Screening for Tongue Tie
  • Strength and Low Muscle Tone
  • Delays with rolling, crawling and walking
  • Head Tilt/Torticollis, Plagiocephaly/Flat Head
  • Visual tracking skills
  • Reaching and Grasping Toys
  • Transition to solid foods

Torticollis/Head Tilt Treatment

Children begin to develop months before they even enter into the world the day they are born.

The diagnosis of a flat head or torticollis/head tilt, can be overwhelming for many parents who feel that they may have done something to cause these symptoms. First and foremost this is untrue and not your fault.

If your new baby is having symptoms of a flat or tilted head, experienced occupational therapist, Sara Wilbert, at Beacon Pediatric Therapy can provide an evaluation to help clarify and assess the concerns you and your pediatrician may have. Parents are present during the evaluation in a private treatment room while being provided support and guidance regarding your concerns.

The evaluation process includes:

  • Assessment of the active range of motion of the neck.
  • Visual skills including eye teaming and tracking.
  • Tolerance to tummy time including positioning, postural reactions in this position, strength of the upper body and flexibility.
  • Hand skills including reaching and grasping
  • Sensory processing/self-soothing skills
  • Parents are provided with hands-on instruction and homework from day 1.
